Happy "Winter Season Holiday".
Do you remember a time when you could walk into a department store and hear "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" Muzak playing?
Remember when you were in grade school and how badly you wanted to play one of the three wise men in the school Christmas play, just to end up playing a lamb in the manger?
Remember back when schools HAD a Christmas play?
What about when you were a kid and it was totally okay with you that Christmas was all about the birth of Jesus Christ AND about the jolly St. Nick?
I used to have a friend when I was a child. He was Jewish. Every year as we walked out of the school to start our Christmas break he would say to me, "Merry Christmas, Lynn!" and I would say, "Happy Hannukah, Alan!" and that was completely okay with us. We knew that Christmas and Hannukah happened around the same time, but they were totally different holidays.
Now things are totally different. We don't have Christmas any more. The birth of Jesus Christ has been pushed aside because some people do not celebrate the holiday. I'd like to know where in the Wide World of Sports this is supposed to make sense. 85 percent of the citizens of this country are Christian. So, 85 percent of us are having to wish people "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings", unless you have a friend who celebrates Hannukah or Kwaanza, then you can actually use the proper holiday name. This makes about as much sense as taking away my cold medication because as a 43 year-old working adult, I might use it to make meth.
If I say Merry Christmas to you and you don't celebrate Christmas, correct me. I'll remember. If you want me to have a good holiday, wish me a Merry Christmas.
